I wanted to provide an update regarding knife crime, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. We are aware that many people may be worried about knife crime in their local communities. We are committed to tackling knife crime wherever we find it, in order to keep you safe. If you would like to know more about the guidance that is available, our website includes a number of important resources that can offer guidance, including what to do if you think someone you know needs help, how to keep people safe, and support organisations you can talk to. Passing on information to organisations such as Crimestoppers or Fearless can not only help after a crime or incident, but vitally stop something from happening. Carrying a knife won’t keep you safe , it puts your life, your future, and your freedom at risk.
🔪 ONE KNIFE CAN DESTROY MANY LIVES
- A split-second decision can lead to serious injury, permanent disability, or death. - One moment of anger or fear can change your life forever. - A knife doesn’t give you control, it creates danger.
Most young people who carry a knife never intend to use it… but it only takes one moment for everything to go wrong.
⚠️ CARRYING A KNIFE MAKES YOU MORE LIKELY TO BE HURT Many victims of knife attacks are hurt with their own weapon. When you carry a knife, you make yourself a target, not safer.
- You could be arrested. - You could end up in prison. - You could become a victim yourself.
There is NO ‘safe’ way to carry a knife. Not for protection. Not “just in case.” Not ever.
👥 YOUR CHOICES AFFECT EVERYONE AROUND YOU Knife crime doesn’t just harm the person carrying the weapon, it breaks the hearts of families, friends, and entire communities.
- Parents lose children. - Friends lose friends. - Communities lose trust and safety.
Every stabbing leaves a trail of trauma behind it.
🚨 IF YOU’RE FEELING PRESSURED OR SCARED, SPEAK UP You are never alone, and you don’t have to carry a weapon to feel safe. Talk to:
- A parent or family member - A teacher or mentor - A youth worker - A trusted friend - A support service or helpline
Asking for help is a sign of strength, carrying a knife isn’t.
👣 WALK AWAY FROM DANGER, WALK TOWARDS A BETTER FUTURE Walking away from a risky situation doesn’t make you weak, it makes you wise. Choosing not to carry a knife shows courage and maturity. Even if you’ve carried before, you can stop today. There are safer paths and better choices ahead of you.
🛑 A KNIFE IS NEVER THE ANSWER There are ALWAYS alternatives:
- Safe spaces - Mentoring schemes - Youth programmes - Conflict resolution - Support from professionals - Friends who care about your future
You deserve a life filled with opportunity, not fear.
CHOOSE LIFE. CHOOSE SAFETY. CHOOSE A FUTURE YOU CAN BE PROUD OF.
