A test purchase operation was conducted to tackle underage sales |

Local parents have raised concerns regarding venues in the Finsbury Park area selling age‑restricted items to children, including knives, alcohol, and vapes. In response, officers from the Finsbury Park Ward Team and Town Centre Team have carried out targeted engagement and enforcement operations across multiple locations within the ward. The operation involved police officers supported by MPS Police Cadets, who attended premises and attempted to purchase age‑restricted products. While some venues did appropriately challenge age, the operation identified a significant number of failings. Of the 41 premises visited, 17 unlawful sales were recorded, predominantly involving alcohol, as well as the illegal sale of knives. The Safer Neighbourhoods Team is now working closely with partners at Islington Council Trading Standards as part of the enforcement phase, focusing on premises that permitted these illegal sales. Appropriate enforcement action is being considered in line with legislation. This operation was a key safeguarding initiative aimed at ensuring businesses consistently apply the Challenge 25 policy to prevent underage sales. The sale of alcohol to individuals under the legal age can contribute to youth‑related antisocial behaviour and wider community harm. Officers will continue to monitor compliance and take action where necessary to protect young people and maintain community safety, with plans for future test purchase operations. We urge residents to report any concerns about venues involved in unauthorized sales, either online or by calling 101. As the local neighbourhood police team, we will receive this report and take action as quickly as possible. | ||
