I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Another Bite Taken Out of the Pasty: “Short Long Hairy” Charged
Following the successful arrest and charge of a prolific shoplifter known to staff as “Hamster,” the Greenford Broadway Safer Neighbourhood Team has continued its focused work with Greggs on Greenford Broadway to tackle persistent shoplifting in the area.
As part of the same partnership approach, officers turned their attention to another repeat offender, known to store staff by the nickname “Short Long Hairy.” Through detailed incident logging by Greggs staff and continued police engagement, the scale of this individual’s offending became clear.
“Short Long Hairy” was identified as being responsible for 75 separate theft incidents, resulting in losses of over £2,110 to the store. These offences occurred over an extended period and had a significant impact on staff and business operations.
Working closely with Greggs, the team gathered evidence and built a robust case, leading to the arrest and charge of the offender. Following charge, he has been remanded in police custody and will attend court.
These outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of consistent partnership working, accurate reporting, and proactive policing. The team remains committed to supporting local businesses, reducing repeat offending, and ensuring Greenford Broadway remains a safer place for staff, customers, and the wider community. We would like to thank the staff at Greggs for their continued cooperation and commitment to reporting incidents, which has been instrumental in achieving these results.
