A thank you to those that attended the bike marking event |

Yesterday (10/04/2024), PCSO Brockett and I held a Bike Marking event at the Broadoak & Smallshaw Community Centre, and I want to say a big thank you to everyone who came along and took part. Bike marking is a simple step that makes a real difference. It gives officers a far better chance of recovering your bike if it’s ever stolen, and it acts as a strong deterrent to thieves. From a policing perspective, a marked bike is much easier to identify, trace, and return to its rightful owner—even if parts have been changed or the bike has travelled across the country. Greater Manchester Police, along with most UK police forces, works in partnership with BikeRegister. You can register your bike for free using its unique frame number by visiting The National Cycle Database | BikeRegister. From the BikeRegister website, you can also purchase marking kits (priced between £12.99 and £29.99). Yesterday, we used these kits to mark a number of residents’ bikes completely free of charge. Keep an eye on Bee in the Loop for details of future bike marking events. If you’re reading this from a Facebook group and aren’t yet signed up to receive updates from your local neighbourhood policing team, you can do so at www.beeintheloop.co.uk or by speaking with your local Police Community Support Officers or Neighbourhood Beat Officer.
