Recent reports indicate a surge in VEHICLE CRIME, including both thefts of and from motor vehicles in the SOUTH WALES POLICE AREA and surrounding areas.

Targeted Vehicles: Offenders are specifically targeting cars with Keyless entry systems.

Recent incidents: Attempted car thefts and break-ins have been reported since the beginning of April.

Advice: Residents are urged to ensure vehicles are locked securely, keys are kept in a safe location away from windows and doors, and to remain vigilant.

Keeping Your Vehicle Safe

Park smart: Always choose well-lit, busy areas where possible. Thieves are less likely to target vehicles in visible locations.

Lock it every time: Even if you’re only leaving your car for a minute, ensure it is locked and windows are fully closed.

Be cautious with keyless entry: Vehicles with keyless systems can be vulnerable to relay theft. Keep keys away from doors and windows at home.

Use a Faraday pouch: Store your keyless car keys in a Faraday pouch to block signals and prevent thieves from accessing your vehicle remotely.

Remove valuables: Don’t leave items on display—bags, phones, and tools can attract opportunistic thieves.

Install security devices: Steering wheel locks, alarms, or tracking devices add extra layers of protection.

Secure at home: If possible, park on a driveway or in a garage, and consider CCTV or motion lighting.

Stay alert: Report suspicious behaviour around vehicles to local authorities.

Reporting: If you have information or have been a victim, contact SOUTH WALES POLICE on 101. Call 999 only if the theft is happening right now, the thieves are still present.
