Drug arrest |
||
|
On Tuesday 14th April officers from the Vincent Square ward team were on uniformed patrol through some of the area’s drug hot spots. This was part of the ongoing Operation Varenna which is designed to disrupt local drug dealing and the anti-social behaviour it creates. An arrest was made on Stillington Street of a male wanted on recall to prison for failure to comply with the terms of his parole agreement. The original offence was drug related. He was spotted by officers who recognised him from previous interactions. Less than an hour later members of the team stopped two teenage males acting suspiciously near Gillingham Row off Vauxhall Bridge Road. Both have been seen associating with known drug users in a manner suggesting an involvement with drug dealing. One of them had recently been stopped by plain clothes officers shortly after discarding a large machete. This suspect is 16 and his associate just 15 years old. The former was found to be missing from his home in West Yorkshire which meant that officers detaining him had a duty of care to return him safely to his home address. Liaising with colleagues from West Yorkshire Police the young male was handed over later that day in Leicester. Operation Varenna is set to continue through the Spring as we are determined to keep up the pressure on local dealers.
