A series of thefts from motor vehicles appears to have emerged across the Chapel St Leonards area over recent weeks. We’re making the community aware of some crime prevention advice after eight incidents have been reported to us since the beginning of April. East Lindsey Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector Jacky Evans said: “These offences are largely opportunistic. Offenders are checking for unlocked vehicles or items left in plain view, so we’re asking residents to lock their cars, remove valuables, and report anything suspicious. Simple steps can make a significant difference in preventing this type of crime.” Crime Prevention AdviceWe would urge members of the community to take the follow steps to reduce the risk of vehicles being targeted: Protecting your vehicleLock your vehicle every time, even when parked at home or for short periods.Close windows and sunroofs fully before leaving your vehicle.Activate car alarms or immobilisers where fitted.Remove temptationDo not leave valuables in your vehicle, including wallets, handbags, laptops, mobile phones, tools, or shopping.Remove loose change and other small items that may attract offenders.Hide garage remotes and spare keys - never leave them inside the vehicle. If valuables must be left inside, lock them in the boot before arriving at your destination.Park smartPark in well‑lit, well‑trafficked areas whenever possible. At home, use a garage, or park off‑street if available.Position vehicles where they are visible from the house or neighbours’ properties.Extra steps at home, where applicableEnsure garage doors are locked and in good working order.Consider security lighting or CCTV around driveways and parking areas.Report suspicious activityReport suspicious behaviour immediately to police via local non‑emergency or emergency numbers as appropriate. If a theft occurs, do not touch the vehicle and report the incident as soon as possible. In the unfortunate event of discovering a theft, there are a number of ways to report a crime that’s already happened: By calling 101By logging a report via our website https://www.lincs.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/Or reporting anonymously, via the Crimestoppers website: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/forms/give-information-anonymouslyAlways call 999 if you witness a crime in progress.
