New twist on classic scam / Hen dric mewn gwisg newydd.

Look out for text messages that appear to be from a family member claiming to have forgotten or lost their card and asking you to transfer money to help them out.

We have warned many times over the last few years about the ‘Hi Mum’ or ‘Hi Dad’ scams that impersonate family members on WhatsApp and other messaging platforms.

However, we’ve recently seen a number of cases where the online criminals have put a new spin on the traditional  ‘Hi Mum’ or ‘Hi Dad’ scams where they are now pretending to be ‘Mum’ or ‘Dad’ asking their grown-up children to help them out by sending them some money.

• There will be a sense of urgency. The sender will claim that they forgot or brought the wrong bank/credit card when on a household errand such as getting petrol or groceries that requires money quickly.
• The sender will ask you to transfer them money electronically and will provide bank account details in the message.

⛔ Do not reply directly in the message stream. If you are concerned, call or contact your relative on the number already stored in your phone to confirm it's real.
⛔ Never send money without being sure who you are sending it to.

How to report a scam message:

- If the fraudsters are using WhatsApp,  press and hold on the message bubble, select ‘Report’ and then follow the instructions.
- Forward scam text messages on to 7726 for free.
- If you are unfortunate enough to have paid money, please contact your bank and report to the matter to North Wales Police on 101 or via the North Wales Police website.

Rydym wedi rhybuddio sawl gwaith dros yr ychydig flynyddoedd diwethaf am y sgamiau 'Helo Mam' neu 'Helo Dad' sy'n dynwared aelodau o'r teulu ar WhatsApp a llwyfannau negeseuon eraill.

Fodd bynnag, rydym wedi gweld nifer o achosion yn ddiweddar lle mae'r troseddwyr ar-lein wedi rhoi tro newydd ar y sgamiau traddodiadol 'Helo Mam' neu 'Helo Dad' lle maent bellach yn esgus bod yn 'Mam' neu'n 'Dad' gan ofyn i'w plant sydd bellach yn oedolion eu helpu trwy anfon arian iddynt.

• Bydd ymdeimlad o frys. Bydd yr anfonwr yn honni eu bod wedi anghofio neu wedi dod â'r cerdyn banc/credyd anghywir pan fyddant allan yn talu am betrol neu’n sipa bwyd ac felly angen arian yn gyflym.
• Bydd yr anfonwr yn gofyn i chi drosglwyddo arian iddynt yn electronig a byddent yn darparu manylion cyfrif banc yn y neges.

⛔ Peidiwch ag ateb yn uniongyrchol yn y llif negeseuon. Os ydych chi'n pryderu, ffoniwch neu cysylltwch â'ch perthynas ar y rhif sydd eisoes wedi'i storio yn eich ffôn i gadarnhau ei fod yn ddilys.
⛔ Peidiwch byth ag anfon arian heb fod yn siŵr at bwy rydych chi'n ei anfon.

Sut i riportio negeseuon sgâm o’r fath:

- Os yw'r twyllwyr yn defnyddio WhatsApp, pwyswch a daliwch y swigod neges, dewiswch ‘Report’ ac yna dilynwch y cyfarwyddiadau.
- Anfonwch negeseuon testun sgam ymlaen i 7726 yn rhad ac am ddim.
- Os ydych chi'n ddigon anffodus i fod wedi gyrru arian, cysylltwch â'ch banc a riportiwch y mater i Heddlu Gogledd Cymru ar 101 neu drwy wefan Heddlu Gogledd Cymru.
