SECURE YOUR GARDEN FOR THE SUMMER. It's easy to forget that our gardens can also become a target for opportunist thieves. Garden furniture to tools, bikes and BBQs can be stolen. Lock it away or lock it down. Where possible, secure items in a shed or garage or anchor or lock larger items like bikes and equipment. The vulnerable points of access are side gates. An unlocked or a weak gate can offer easy access to your property. Upgrade simple latches to more secure locks and get into the habit of closing gates properly.
It is also important to think about visibility. Whilst hedges and bushes can provide privacy, they can also create hiding spots for someone trying to access your property unnoticed. Keep plants neat around doors, windows, and pathways. This will help ensure that your space stays visible to neighbours and passersby. When you are away from home, ask a neighbour to move your bins.
REPORT FRAUD. CRIMINALS STOLE OVER £879 MILLION IN INVESTMENT FRAUD IN 2025 - AN AVERAGE OF £2.4 MILLION A DAY. This marks a 31% increase on the previous year. Reports began climbing steadily from March and spiked in July and September when many people review their investments, move money into new products, or check their returns ahead of the new year. Take a few simple steps to prevent this from happening. Before making any investments , use the FCA's FIRM CHECKER TOOL to confirm whether a firm or individual is authorised. This tool can be accessed via the FCA website and is one of the most effective ways to avoid cloned firms and bogus advisors. FCA FIRM CHECKER You can also contact the Financial Conduct Authority's consumer helpline on 0800 111 6768 or report suspicious businesses or individuals by using the reporting form on their website. Any suspicious activity should be reported to REPORT FRAUD as soon as possible at www.reportfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040
