Local Priorities Fraud (e.g. bogus callers, courier fraud, cyber crime) Message |

|
I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Fraud (e.g. bogus callers, courier fraud, cyber crime), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. There was a cold caller/ Rogue trader in Plympton this week in Plympton where a number of males called at an address to clean the patio (no permission was given) at a cost of £900.00 pound. The two male's were in a van with Irish plates. On police arrival one male was in the van and one was taking the money from the occupant. Fortunately due to police intervention no money was handed over. Please be mindful if leaflets are posted through your door offering services and please check if they are legitimate before taking on the services offered. People in the UK lost £1.2bn to fraud in 2022, the equivalent of £2,300 every minute, according to bank industry group UK Finance. It said around three million scams took place, with frauds involving payment cards being the most common. Fraud is when trickery is used to gain a dishonest advantage, which is often financial, over another person. Cybercrime is any criminal act dealing with computers and networks.
