Local Priorities Mobile phone theft Update- Community Alert – Increase in Phone Thefts (Homerton & Hackney Wick Area)

I wanted to provide an update regarding Mobile phone theft, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

We want to make residents aware of a recent increase in phone thefts across the Homerton & Hackney Wick sector. Suspects are using pedal cycles to approach victims and steal mobile phones.

Police are actively responding to this issue. Officers are deployed in both uniform and plain clothes across the area, with additional patrols on bicycles. Hackney Council CCTV teams are also closely monitoring and reporting any suspicious activity to police.

Further patrols will be in place on Friday and Saturday nights, particularly around Narrow Way E9 and Westgate Street E8. These operations will be supported by Hackney Council enforcement officers.
