I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Police Community Safety Message – Residential Burglaries
We are making residents aware of a recent increase in residential burglaries affecting homes that back onto Ruislip Woods and the area surrounding Haste Hill Golf Club.
Offenders are believed to be using the woodland and golf course boundaries to gain access to rear gardens and properties, particularly during the evening and night-time hours. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and consider the following crime‑prevention advice:
Boundary security
Regularly check rear fencing, hedges, and gates for damage or weak points, especially where properties back onto woodland or the golf course. Repair or replace broken fence panels as soon as possible. Secure rear gates with strong padlocks or locking bolts. Consider trellis or other anti‑climb measures on top of fencing where appropriate.
Cameras and lighting
CCTV, video doorbells, and rear or side access cameras can act as a strong deterrent and help identify offenders. Ensure cameras are well positioned to cover rear access points and are fully operational. Use motion‑activated lighting to illuminate gardens and rear access areas.
General security
Always lock doors and windows, even when you are at home. Keep valuables out of sight and consider forensic property marking. Work with neighbours to keep an eye on each other’s homes and report any concerns.
Reporting suspicious activity Please report any suspicious behaviour, including people loitering near rear gardens, fences, woodland paths, or the perimeter of Haste Hill Golf Club:
Call 999 if a crime is in progress. Call 101 to report suspicious activity or to pass on information. Crimestoppers – anonymously on 0800 555 111
Information from residents, no matter how small it may seem, can help prevent further offences and keep the community safe. Thank you for your continued cooperation.
While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
