Grantham - vehicles are being targeted

Reports have been received that vehicles have been targeted on Queensway, Edward Street, Princess Drive, Hudson Way and Tyndal Road, Grantham, since Thursday 30 April.

PC Mark Barr, Community Beat Manager, Grantham Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We're asking everyone to double check what is left behind in their cars and vans; please take a moment to check what can be seen and take anything valuable out or put it out of sight. Remember what might not be valuable to you at the time, may be of value to someone else; like a jacket or a bag, especially if there are bank cards, mobile phones etc in them.

"Double check to make sure the vehicle is secure. Make sure after unloading the boot you go back and lock the vehicle. It's the things we take for granted and it's easy to overlook.

Crime Prevention Advice

We would urge members of the community to take the follow steps to reduce the risk of vehicles being targeted:

Protecting your vehicle

Lock your vehicle every time, even when parked at home or for short periods.

Close windows and sunroofs fully before leaving your vehicle.

Activate car alarms or immobilisers where fitted.

Remove temptation

Do not leave valuables in your vehicle, including wallets, handbags, laptops, mobile phones, tools, or shopping.

Remove loose change and other small items that may attract offenders.

Hide garage remotes and spare keys - never leave them inside the vehicle.

If valuables must be left inside, lock them in the boot before arriving at your destination.

Park smart

Park in well‑lit, well‑trafficked areas whenever possible.

At home, use a garage, or park off‑street if available.

Position vehicles where they are visible from the house or neighbours’ properties.

Extra steps at home, where applicable

Ensure garage doors are locked and in good working order.

Consider security lighting or CCTV around driveways and parking areas.

Report suspicious activity

Report suspicious behaviour immediately to police via local non‑emergency or emergency numbers as appropriate.

If a theft occurs, do not touch the vehicle and report the incident as soon as possible.
