Oswestry and Ellesmere SNT Fatal Four Traffic Operation.
Yesterday Wednesday 6th May officers from the Oswestry and Ellesmere Safer Neighbourhoods Policing Team conducted a Traffic Operation focusing on, but not limited to, the ‘Fatal Four’.
The Fatal Four represents the four most common reasons for collisions, injury and death on our roads and are defined as being:
* Using a Mobile Phone. * Driving without a Seatbelt. * Drink and/or Drug driving. * Speeding or inappropriate speed. What the operation involved
The team set up four locations in Oswestry, Ellesmere, St Martins and Pant where vehicles were monitored and pulled into a stop site where officers dealt with any offences that had been detected. Officers also visited a number of locations with the TruCam speed detection device to monitor the speed of road users and take enforcement action if excessive speed was recorded. Outcomes of the operation
As a result of the operation 28 traffic offences were detected and those committing them have been reported for prosecution.
The team were also accompanied by APCC Tracey Onslow from the West Mercia Police’s Police and Crime Commissioners office, seeing firsthand the hard and tirelessly continuing work of the team to tackle such widespread and impacting issues within our communities. Why this matters
The Fatal Four remain the leading contributors to serious road harm across the UK. Targeted operations like this are designed to:
* Reduce high risk driving behaviours * Increase visibility of local policing * Reassure communities concerned about speeding and dangerous driving * Support wider road safety strategies across West Mercia. What’s planned next
Further operations are already scheduled, both focusing again on the Fatal Four and addressing other offences affecting local communities. This aligns with West Mercia Police’s ongoing neighbourhood policing priorities, which emphasise community safety, visibility, and proactive enforcement
