North Yorkshire Police – Fraud and Scam Awareness Message

North Yorkshire Police are reminding residents to remain vigilant to scams and fraud, which continue to affect individuals and communities across the county.

Fraudsters are constantly adapting their tactics to trick people into handing over money or personal information. Common scams currently being reported include:

Phishing emails and text messages pretending to be from banks, delivery companies, or government organisations

Phone scams, where criminals impersonate police officers, HMRC, or bank staff

Online marketplace and social media scams, involving fake sales or investment opportunities

Doorstep fraud, where individuals pose as traders offering urgent work or services

How to protect yourself:

Never give out personal or financial information to someone you were not expecting to hear from

Do not click on links or download attachments from unknown or suspicious messages

Take time to verify who you are dealing with—contact organisations using official numbers

Be wary of requests for urgent action or pressure to make quick decisions

Speak to friends or family if something doesn’t feel right

If you believe you have been targeted or fallen victim to a scam, report it to Action Fraud at www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.

For ongoing incidents or if you feel threatened, contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, or dial 999 in an emergency.
