Police dog finds drugs hidden in steering wheel,
A police dog ‘steered’ officers in the right direction following a drugs bust near Cowfold. A silver Peugeot 207 linked to the supply of illegal substances was stopped on the A272 on 10 March and searched by officers, who discovered a small amount of cannabis in the side of the driver’s door. But it was only after the vehicle was recovered and taken for further checks that the true extent of the stash was revealed. PD Jake, a Cocker Spaniel with eight years of working experience, immediately indicated on the steering wheel, which officers noted felt soft and the horn did not work. read full story here -
700 offences detected in the first week of AI road safety cameras.
New AI road safety cameras have detected hundreds of offences in the first week of operation. Sussex Police is the latest force to deploy the technology, designed specifically to detect drivers using a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt. These are among the ‘fatal five’ offences, and during the last three years in Sussex, 82 people have been involved in a collision where someone was driving whilst using a mobile phone, and 214 people have been injured in a collision due to not wearing a seatbelt. Funding boost to help tackle knife crime in Sussex
Targeted action is to be expanded in knife crime hotspots in Sussex. Knife crime devastates lives – and the majority of it is concentrated in specific areas. Sussex has been awarded nearly £600k from a new Home Office fund to specifically target and reduce knife crime in four local areas. The week aims to raise awareness and promote action to prevent knife crime across West /East Sussex . We are encouraging the public to drop off their dangerous or unwanted knives and blades at our knife amnesty bins. Our bins are available all year round where you can dispose of your knives and blades safely. Knives can be dropped off at Crawley Police Station, please check opening times.
