🐕 Dog walkers – help protect wildlife this spring and summer 🐦 1️⃣ What we want you to know Today, your local Safer Neighbourhood Team was in Carding Mill Valley speaking with dog owners about seasonal dog control rules on open access land. From 1 March to 31 July, dogs must be kept on a short lead (no more than 2 metres) on open access land such as moorland, heathland and coastal paths. These rules are in place to protect ground‑nesting birds and young animals, which are especially vulnerable at this time of year. Failure to comply can result in fines of up to £1,000, and dogs worrying livestock can lead to unlimited fines and further action. This activity supports the NPCC Rural Crime focus (Operation Randall) and our local priority to protect wildlife, livestock and rural communities. 2️⃣ How we want you to feel We want you to feel informed, reassured and confident that we’re working with partners and the public to protect wildlife while supporting responsible dog ownership in our countryside. 3️⃣ What we want you to do ✅ Keep your dog on a short lead during the spring and summer months ✅ Follow local signage when walking on open access land ✅ Report concerns or ask for advice via www.neighbourhoodmatters.co.uk Working together, we can keep our countryside safe for everyone to enjoy. 🌿🐾 |
