Officers from Humberside Police and colleagues from trading standards conducted joint visits at stores across Hull suspected of selling illicit tobacco. Warrants were also carried out at properties which intelligence suggested were storing illicit tobacco.
With the assistance of K9 GRIFF (tobacco detection dog) handled by Stu Phillips, over £150,000 worth of illicit tobacco was located in various concealments including under floorboards, inside coffee machines and behind walls.
The sale of cheap illegal tobacco undermines the work that is being done to cut smoking levels and save lives. Furthermore, the sale of these products funds much more serious and organised crime including human trafficking and modern-day slavery.
