I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Vehicle crime (theft from or theft of), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Officers attended the WAUN WEN area after reports of an abandoned vehicle. It was confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen. The vehicle has now been recovered for further investigations. Swansea Neighbourhood policing team would like to take this time to thank members of the community for being vigilant and reporting incidents that seem suspicious. The owner of the vehicle has been informed and is happy that she can pick her vehicle up in due course.
Here are a few ways to keep your vehicle safe: Lock and secure your car: Always lock your doors and close windows completely, even when parked at home or briefly stopping. Unlocked vehicles are easy targets for thieves, and a small opening can allow access with simple tools.
Take your keys with you: Never leave keys or fobs inside the car or in obvious hiding spots. Keep them away from doors and mail slots to prevent relay attacks that can trick keyless entry systems.
Park strategically: Choose well-lit, busy areas or secure garages. Motion-detection lights and surveillance cameras can deter thieves and alert you or authorities to suspicious activity.
Install anti-theft devices: Consider alarms, steering-wheel locks, ignition kill switches, or GPS tracking systems. Modern vehicles may include built-in immobilizers, which prevent the engine from starting without the correct key.
Hide valuables: Keep items like phones, purses, and electronics out of sight, preferably in the trunk. Visible valuables can attract opportunistic thieves.
Be cautious with vehicle documents: Do not leave your registration or title in the car. Thieves can use these to evade law enforcement if stopped.
Secure connected features: If your car has Wi-Fi or smart systems, use strong passwords and keep software updated to prevent electronic hacking.
Know your environment: Avoid high- crime areas when possible, and be extra vigilant at night. Awareness of surroundings reduces the risk of theft.
