Roads Policing update from Ceredigion BCU

Monthly community update from Ceredigion Roads Policing Sgt David Hawksworth - May 2026

Hello everyone

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share a quick round up of the work that your local Roads Policing Unit have been doing in your area, what's coming up and how we are working with partners to keep our roads safe for those living in, working in and visiting Ceredigion.

From what our communities have told us we have been focusing on:

Priority 1 - Speeding Concerns: A44 (Llanbadarn Fawr, Capel Bangor, Goginan, Ponterwyd)

Priority 2 - Speeding Concerns & Anti-Social Driving: A492 (Aberaeron to Lampeter)

Priority 3 - Speeding Concerns & Anti-Social Driving: Newcastle Emlyn & Surrounding Area

To effectively tackle these issues we have been working with colleagues from other departments and partner orgnisations including:

The Neighbourhood Policing & Prevention Team (NPPT)

Ceredigion Response Policing Team

Dyfed Powys Police Schools Liason Team

Local Authority Road Safety Team

These collaborations are helping us respond more effectively and holistically to community needs.

As a result we have:

Conducted a signficant number of targeted patrols in the areas of concern you have highlighted to us.

Dealt with more then 90 Road Traffic Offences (including Speeding, Mobile Phone Use & Careless & Dangerous Driving)

Made 16 arrests for Drink & Drug Driving Offences

Dealt with 11 vehicles being driven without insurance on Ceredigions roads

Dealt with several vehicles for being driven in a dangerous condition on Ceredigion roads (prohibiting further use of the vehicles until issues were rectified.

In addition to this officers from your local Roads Policing Team have also been busy supporting wider policing in Ceredigion with their specialist skills and have:

Made several proactive arrests in connection with offences of Drug Supply, removing Class A and B drugs from Ceredigions streets.

Deployed as Drone Pilots to multiple incidents within the county helping to safely locate a number of vulnerable missing persons.

Participated in a Road Safety Awareness and Education event attended by over 200 students from schools across Ceredigon.

This coming month we will continue to target the issues affecting our communities by supporting the following road safety Campaigns:

Operation Spotlight (Targetting the Fatal 4 Road Traffic Offences: speeding, drink / drug driving / mobile phone use & no seatbelts).

Operation Apex (Reducing the risks for Vulnerable Road Users such as Motorcyclists & Cyclists)

E-BIke & E-Scooters (Targeting Illegal and Anti-Social use of E-Bikes & E-Scooters)

Upcoming events that your local Roads Policing Team will be supporting / involved with include the following:

Road Safety Enagagement Event (Saturday 23/05/26 - Aberystwyth Bandstand) - hosted by Ceredigion County Council's Road Safety Department this event will see their road safety team joined by a range of emergency services including Police and Fire Service as well as charities and organisations including Blood Bikes Wales, IAM Roadsmart. Please come down to the prom and meet the team.
