Good Morning all,

Yesterday I received information from a member of the public known to me, who contacted me regarding a suspicious text message they had received (see below). They raised concerns that although they did not fall for the scam and checked with the police first, others may not recognise it as fraudulent and could potentially call the number provided and share personal or banking details.

Please be mindful of scam messages. Below are some key tips to help you spot and avoid them:

How to spot a scam:

Messages creating urgency or panic (e.g. “act now,” “account will be closed”)

Requests for personal, banking or login details

Unknown numbers or unusual email addresses

Poor spelling or grammar

Links that don’t look genuine or mimic official organisations

How to protect yourself:

Do not click on links or call numbers from suspicious messages

Always verify by contacting the organisation directly using official contact details

Never share PINs, passwords, or full banking details

If unsure, take time to check—do not rush

Report suspicious texts by forwarding them to 7726 (SPAM)

Inform your bank immediately if you think you may have shared financial details
