|
Dear Residents, Eltham Town & Avery hill Ward – SNT officers have been actively conducting weapon sweeps throughout the ward during the afternoon period, this is part of a London wide initiative. This week marks knife crime awareness week (18th – 24th MAY), commonly known as “OP SCEPTRE”, this is an important annual campaign that highlights the devastating impact knife crime has on individuals, families and communities. The initiative aims to educate, particularly young people on the serious consequences of carrying and using knives, while promoting positive choices and safer alternatives. Throughout the week, schools, police, charities and local organisations work collaboratively to share impactful messages, provide support and promote prevention strategies. The campaign also reinforces the importance of community involvement in reducing violence, building trust and creating safer environments for all. We are aware that many people may be worried about knife crime in their local communities. We are committed to tackling knife crime wherever we find it, in order to keep you safe. The metropolitan police routinely run weapon sweeps and host amnesty bins during weeks of intensified anti-knife action known as “OP SCEPTRE”. During these periods initiative aims to educate, particularly young people on the serious consequences of carrying and using knives, while promoting positive choices and safer alternatives. Throughout the week, schools, police, charities and local organisations work collaboratively to share impactful messages, provide support and promote prevention strategies. The campaign also reinforces the importance of community involvement in reducing violence, building trust and creating safer environments for all. In course of our weapon sweep on 20th MAY 2026, we manage to recover two (2) large samurai swords, a large set of kitchen knives and cleavers and disposed of those items in amnesty bins provided by metropolitan police . Kind regards PCSO Sthung Ko Kirant
