|
A Letchworth Garden City man has been convicted after illegally dumping green waste within Jackmans Plantation, a North Herts Council site known for its wildlife and natural habitats.
Following an investigation led by North Herts District Council (NHDC), Luke Jenkins, of Chatterton, Letchworth Garden City was found to have disposed of waste in the woodland after carrying out tree work at a nearby residential address, rather than using a licenced facility. Evidence included a clear trail of waste and video footage showing branches being taken into the site.
Jenkins failed to attend court after also failing to engage with the NHDC investigators, a warrant was issued for his arrest and on the 8th April officers from the Rural Operational Support Team (ROST) were more than happy to execute that warrant. Jenkins was subsequently found guilty at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court on 15th May.
He was sentenced to a 12-month community order, including 40 hours of unpaid work, and ordered to pay £2,000 in costs.
This result highlights the commitment of partners to protecting our green spaces and holding offenders accountable. Fly-tipping is not only illegal but causes significant harm to the environment, wildlife and the wider community. We encourage residents to:
