Doorstep Rogue Traders

Please be aware that there have been reports of doorstep rogue traders offering services such as urgent work on properties or gardens.  Don't accept work from traders who approach you on your doorstep unannounced, or those who leaflet you.  These people may try to alarm you into agreeing for them to do work for you, that they convince you is urgent, and they may offer a really great price.  Often the work is not required at all.  Do not let people into your house, and remember to use a door chain.  These people may appear very friendly and convincing, or alternatively put you under pressure to agree to them doing work.  They may offer to take you to a cash machine to get money out to pay them.  All these techniques are strong indicators of illegal behaviour, resulting in no actual work carried out, work not to the value of that offered, or the traders ‘finding’ further problems that they need to fix at much higher rates.  

If in doubt, call the police, Citizens Advice or Trading Standards.  Please keep yourself and you property safe.  Look out for your neighbours and report anything suspicious.  If you need work doing, seek reputable traders who have a good local reputation.
