Theft Prevention Advice – Keep Yourself and Your Property Safe

We are reminding residents to take simple steps to help reduce the risk of personal theft in your area.

✅ Keep mobile phones, wallets, and valuables out of sight when in public
✅ Avoid placing items on tables in cafés, pubs, or public transport where they can be easily taken
✅ Be mindful when using your phone in the street, especially near roads or on bikes/scooters
✅ Use bags that close securely and wear them across your body where possible
✅ Keep zips and pockets closed in busy or crowded places

🎧 Stay Aware of Your Surroundings:
✅ Avoid distractions such as loud music or constantly looking at your phone
✅ Be cautious of anyone getting too close or causing a distraction
✅ Stick to well-lit and busier routes when walking, especially at night

🚫 Opportunist thieves often target individuals who appear distracted or carrying valuables openly.

If you see suspicious behaviour or have been a victim of theft, please report it. In an emergency, call 999. For non-emergencies, use Met Engage or call 101.
