Dear residents, We are urging members of the public to never leave dogs unattended in vehicles during periods of warm or hot weather. Even on mild days, the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rise rapidly within minutes, leading to serious distress, heatstroke, and potentially death for any animal left inside. We would like to remind dog owners of the following: · Vehicles can become dangerously hot, even if parked in the shade or with windows slightly open. · Dogs are unable to regulate their body temperature effectively in these conditions. · Leaving a dog in a hot car may result in police intervention and could lead to prosecution under animal welfare legislation. If you see a dog in distress inside a vehicle, please contact police on 999 in an emergency, or 101 for non-urgent concerns. Please help us keep animals safe by planning ahead and ensuring your pets are not left in vehicles during warm weather. Protect your pet – don’t leave them in a hot car. |
