Weβve recently seen a noticeable increase in young people using E-Scooters across our area. While we understand the appeal, we are becoming increasingly concerned about the way some of these scooters are being used. Many of the riders we encounter are underage and are unaware that:
Privately owned E-Scooters are not legal to use on public roads, pavements, or public spaces. Failing to stop when requested by police, or riding away, may result in traffic-related offences being committed. Riding without due care or consideration can also put the rider and others at serious risk of injury.
Weβre asking parents and guardians to please:
β
Speak to your children about the rules surrounding E-Scooter use β
Make them aware of the legal implications and their responsibilities β
Ensure they understand the importance of listening to police instructions if approached
Our aim is to keep everyone safe, not to criminalise young people. However, continued misuse may lead to enforcement action, we will be seizing the scooters and further consequences.
Thank you for your support in helping keep our community safe.
