WORLD CUP DRINK/ DRUG DRIVING CAMPAIGN |
||
|
Dear resident.
As your Neighbourhood Policing Team, we want to keep residents informed ahead of the upcoming World Cup period, when we know more people will be out socialising and enjoying time with family and friends.
From 1st June to 31st June, Greater Manchester Police will be supporting a targeted drink and drug drive campaign.
During this time, you may notice an increase in police patrols, more vehicles being stopped and checked and roadside breath tests / drug wipes being conducted.
These proactive checks are being carried out to keep our roads safe and prevent serious harm.
We are urging everyone to not drink and drive nor to not take drugs and drive (including certain prescription medications if they impair you).
Even small amounts of alcohol or drugs can significantly reduce your reaction times and decision-making.
If you are caught driving under the influence, you face a minimum 12-month driving ban/ unlimited fine/ up to 6 months in prison and a criminal record.
If you are involved in a collision causing death while impaired, you could face up to 14 years in prison
As your Saddleworth & Lees NBO Team, we have made a clear pledge: To proactively target dangerous drivers and keep our roads safe for everyone.
If you’re planning to enjoy the football or a night out, please ensure you plan ahead and arrange a designated driver/ use public transport or taxis or stay over rather than driving.
Driving under the influence is not worth the risk, to yourself or to others. We will continue to take robust action against offenders, and we thank the community for your continued support in helping keep Saddleworth & Lees a safe place to live and travel.
Regards
PS Andy Holian – Saddleworth & Lees Neighbourhood Sergeant.
