New fraud affecting some Hertfordshire residents |
Dear Resident, Fraudsters are currently targeting residents in Hertfordshire using a fake Whats App account bearing the name and logo of the Financial Conduct Authority. The fraudsters request bank account details which are then used to withdraw money. A Hertfordshire victim has lost tens of thousands of pounds to this latest fraud.
No financial institution will ever ask you for your bank account details, passwords and PIN numbers and you should not provide them.
During 2025 there were 6,757 reports of fraud and 1,664 reports of cybercrime made by residents or businesses located in Hertfordshire with a total financial loss of £44m. A fraud is an act of deception intended to make personal gain or cause loss to another. A cybercrime is a crime committed using communication technology such as computers. To report an incident of cybercrime or fraud and for further information visit the Report Fraud website here UK's Home for Reporting Cyber Crime & Fraud - Report Fraud.
