Weekly crime update for Belmont ward. |
||
|
This week we have had a report of a Burglary on Arundel Road which happened on the 30th May 2026, between 10.30am and 5.10pm. The home owner had gone out for the day, and when they returned they found that a rear kitchen window had been smashed. The thief entered the property and carried out an untidy search of each room looking for items to steal. He took jewellery items, which were sentimental to the victim, along with over £350 in foreign currency.
The victim in this case has been very proactive and within a few days they were having Ring DoorBell cameras and CCTV fitted. They are also planning to get a burglar alarm system installed. Can we advise fellow residents to make sure your home security is either working correctly, or if you don't have any, consider measures you can take to make it safer.
We also had a case on Frampton Close where suspects broke the side windows of a van parked blocking the victims garage, and moved it out of the way. They were more than likely trying to steal motorbikes and e-bikes stored in the victims garage, which they have tried to do on previous occasions. On this occasion the owner had done all the right things by blocking the garage, and he also had a number of locks on the garage door. The van alarm was set off during the attempted theft, which frightened off the thieves.
Sometimes thieves can be very determined if there is something they desperately want. This particularly applies to motorcycle thefts, where we have had similar multiple attempts made to steal bikes. As in this case the owner has gone to great lengths to make his property safe, and it has prevented the thieves carrying out their intentions.
We hope this information helps make you aware of the crimes happening on the ward, and gives you the opportunity to avoid being a victim.
Thankyou, Belmont Safer Neighbourhoods Team. PCSO Walker PC Singer PC Lang PC Quinlan
