Dear Resident, This week saw officers and PCSOs on the team posted on the cordon around the unexploded bomb discovered in the Radford area of Coventry. The device was reported at 2.55pm on Tuesday after being discovered during construction work at Sandy Lane Business Park, prompting a multi-agency response to protect the public and support those affected. For the public’s safety, a 100-metre cordon was put in place, resulting in 96 homes being evacuated. Soldiers from 8 Engineer Brigade conducting Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) along with other partners managed the incident from initial discovery through to a render safe, consisting of a controlled detonation of the fuse and the subsequent safe removal of the bomb.
Officers were also posted to support the policing of the Take That concert that took place at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. Officers were posted inside the arena and conducted patrols around the outside and surrounding area.
On Tuesday officers arrested a male offender who has been responsible for several offences over the past few weeks. The male was arrested and was remanded to attend court on Wednesday morning where he appeared for 11 offences in total including Shoplifting, Robbery of a business, Possession of a bladed article, criminal damage, theft from a motor vehicle and fraud. Officers also attended the court to serve the male with a Community Protection Notice and a apply for a criminal behaviour order (CBO) which was granted by the courts, the terms of which state that the male is not allowed to enter the Holbrooks or Radford area without permission from Police. The male was sentenced to 6 months in prison.
