I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Man Arrested in Targeted Operation After Series of Local Burglaries A suspected burglar has been arrested following a targeted police operation in Kenton East, as officers continue to take firm action to tackle local crime. Officers carried out the operation on 10 June after piecing together intelligence from an ongoing investigation into a series of burglaries affecting local homes. Acting on this information, officers moved in to detain a suspect linked to the offences through forensic evidence. He was arrested without incident following the coordinated operation. During the arrest, officers recovered a number of items believed to have been stolen, including jewellery believed to have been taken in burglaries. A large knife was also seized. All items are now being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. Police say the action forms part of a wider effort to disrupt burglary activity, prevent further offences and protect residents. The operation reflects continued work to identify those responsible and return stolen property where possible. Sergeant Dave Jones, who is overseeing the investigation, said: “This arrest reflects the persistence, professionalism and teamwork of our local officers, who have worked tirelessly to build a clear picture of these offences and identify those responsible. Their focus has been on protecting residents and responding to concerns raised by the community. We will continue to take robust action against anyone involved in this type of crime and ensure our neighbourhoods remain safe.” Enquiries are continuing, with officers maintaining a visible presence and working alongside local partners to support residents and prevent further offences. The arrest reflects a sustained focus on tackling burglary in line with local priorities, with neighbourhood officers committed to addressing the issues that matter most to the community and keeping people safe.
While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
