Joint Operation on Underage Sales and Illicit Vapes |

Joint Operation on Underage Sales and Illicit Vapes – 11 June Trading Standards, Kent Police and Tunbridge Wells Borough Council carried out a coordinated programme of visits to local retailers across the town centre, St John’s, Camden Road, Monson Road and Grosvenor Road. This multi-agency operation focused on compliance with legislation covering the sale of vapes, tobacco and alcohol, with a particular emphasis on ensuring Challenge 25 policies are consistently applied to prevent underage sales. This work highlights the strength of partnership collaboration between agencies, sharing resources and intelligence to better safeguard young people. Reducing access to age-restricted products is a key priority, as early exposure to vaping, tobacco and alcohol can lead to longer-term health risks, dependency, and increased vulnerability to wider harm. Encouragingly, the majority of businesses visited were operating to a good standard and taking their responsibilities seriously. However, some retailers were found to have gaps in required documentation and compliance processes. During the operation, Trading Standards officers seized 38 illicit disposable vapes that were on display and being sold at a shop. Joint operations like this will continue as part of ongoing efforts to protect young people and promote safe, responsible retailing across the borough. | ||
