Dear Neighbourhood Link Member, Good Afternoon, and I hope you are well! Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding: What have the neighbourhood team been doing? - High Visibility/Reassurance Patrols – in our ‘hot spot’ areas - Two youths have been arrested for possession of an offensive weapon (OFWEP) – removing dangerous items from our streets and helping keep everyone safe. - Two males have also been arrested on suspicion of being involved in burglaries in the Syston area. A big thank you to all the residents who assisted by sharing information, providing CCTV footage, and supporting one another – it really shows the strength of the Syston community. - Two further youths were arrested in connection with the theft of a forklift truck. - Officers also conducted a stop check on a male in Central Park Syston, resulting in alcohol being seized due to ongoing anti-social behaviour concerns in the area. -On 02.06, Acting on information provided by local residents, targeted patrols have recently been carried out on Ridgemere Lane by PCSO 6024 and PS 4017. During these patrols, officers identified a male smoking a small amount of cannabis. The substance was seized, and a Community Resolution (CR) was issued. -On 03.06, PCSO 6024 and PC 1651 conducted a beat surgery at Queni Bean in Queniborough, speaking to local residents. - On 04.06, Local officers have recovered a stolen vehicle on Checkland Road, Thurmaston, more than a year after it was originally taken. The vehicle was located displaying false registration plates, which were quickly identified as invalid during routine checks. The vehicle has now been recovered and secured by police, and arrangements are in place for it to be returned to its rightful owner, who is understandably pleased with the outcome following a lengthy wait.
This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area. Our Priorities We have received reports of groups of youths causing issues within NL61 area, especially in Syston and Thurmaston. In response, targeted high-visibility patrols have been carried out in identified hotspot areas during peak times, with officers engaging directly with young people to challenge behaviour and set clear expectations. Intelligence has been reviewed to identify repeat locations and nominals, with incidents monitored through neighbourhood tasking. A problem management plan is in place, and two main instigators have been identified as key perpetrators of the ASB. Neighbourhood officers are working closely with East Leicester officers to robustly manage these individuals and pursue appropriate enforcement options. Beat surgeries are taking place within the area to allow members of the public to raise concerns directly with officers and discuss ongoing issues. Partnership working continues with the local authority and youth ser vices, with proportionate escalation through ASB powers where thresholds are met, to reduce offending and provide reassurance to the community. There has been an increase in reports of theft from vehicles across the NL61 area. In response, targeted patrols have been conducted in identified hotspot areas, particularly during peak offending times. Officers have reviewed incident data to identify patterns, with CCTV and forensic opportunities explored where available. Engagement has taken place with affected residents to provide crime prevention advice, including securing vehicles and removing valuables. Beat surgeries are being held locally to allow members of the public to raise concerns directly with officers and discuss ongoing issues and preventative measures. This activity will continue through intelligence-led tasking, continued patrols and community engagement, alongside partnership working where appropriate, to reduce further offending and provide reassurance. Reports of increased shoplifitng have been received in the NL61 area. In response, targeted patrols have been conducted around affected retail premises, informed by incident data and peak offending times. Officers have engaged with store staff to gather intelligence, review CCTV where available and provide crime prevention advice. Repeat locations and nominals are being monitored through neighbourhood tasking. Beat surgeries are taking place within the area to allow members of the public and local businesses to raise concerns directly with officers and discuss ongoing issues. In addition, officers are working closely with the Safer Streets team to identify and tackle the highest harm offenders. Robust action is being taken to disrupt offending, with Community Behaviour Orders (CBOs) being actively considered and pursued where appropriate to reduce repeat shoplifting and provide reassurance. This activity will continue through intelligence-led patrols, partnership working and proportionate enforcement to reduce further offending.
