Just a bit of advice for everyone to stay safe at home.
Be mindful of anyone calling at your door unexpectedly, especially if they’re offering work, claiming to be a trader, or saying they’re from a company or official service. Not everyone who turns up is genuine, so it’s always worth taking a moment to check.
We are particularly concerned about vulnerable members of the community who may be targeted and taken advantage of. In some cases, people are pressured into handing over money repeatedly for poor or unnecessary work. This kind of behaviour is taken very seriously and those responsible can face serious consequences.
You don’t have to open the door or agree to anything straight away. Take your time and don’t be pressured. Ask to see proper ID and look at it closely. If you’re unsure, it’s absolutely fine to close the door and check things yourself. Genuine callers will understand this.
Be careful about letting anyone into your home or paying money upfront, particularly in cash. If they say they’re from a company or utility, use a trusted number to contact the organisation and confirm who they are.
If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts.
If you feel in immediate danger call 999. For anything suspicious or ongoing concerns, report it through 101 or Crimestoppers.
We as your local team are here to help, so please do let us know if something doesn’t seem right.
