PC Riaz, PC Gregory and newly joined neighbourhood team member PC Nilavongse, have been carrying out high‑visibility patrols across Castlefield, focusing on key community locations including St John’s Gardens, the Castlefield Estate, and the wider commercial area.
These patrols follow recent concerns raised by residents and local workers about drug use and an entrenched encampment previously seen within St John’s Gardens. Officers attended the location to provide reassurance, check on the welfare of individuals present, and ensure the area remained safe for families and visitors. During this patrol, all was found to be in order at both St John’s Gardens and the Castlefield Estate.
While continuing their route through the commercial area, PC Riaz received information regarding a prolific shoplifter who had been repeatedly targeting a local business in Castlefield. This individual had caused ongoing disruption and financial loss to staff and the business community.
Using local knowledge and swift enquiries, officers were able to identify, locate, and arrest the male a short time later.
Following a full investigation:
• The male has been charged with six offences of theft from a shop • He has been remanded in custody until the next available court date
This arrest forms part of the City Centre Neighbourhood team’s continued commitment to supporting local businesses, reducing repeat offending, and maintaining safety and confidence across Castlefield.
Officers will remain visible across the area, continuing engagement with residents, businesses, and vulnerable individuals to ensure concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
