Ward Sergeant's Update |
||
|
Every day, Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers come to work to do their best, to keep the communities they serve safe. This was clearly shown this past Friday when officers put themselves in harm’s way to protect the public.
Officers spotted three youths standing on a street corner near a local estate, wearing thick puffer jackets, balaclavas and beanie hats. They stood out straight away, especially given the hot weather and what they were wearing, they were clearly not at the location waiting for the ice cream van to arrive.
An officer from both Belsize and Gospel Oak wards approached the group, as they got closer, the youths immediately ran off. Both officers split up and gave chase, providing updates over their personal radios as they pursued the youths. Further officers from Belsize, Gospel Oak and Haverstock wards responded to assist and two of the three youths were eventually caught and detained.
During a search of the youths, a large machete-style weapon (picture attached) was found on one of the youths and Class B drugs were found on both. Both youths were arrested and taken into custody, where they were interviewed in relation to the offences.
The youth found in possession of the machete has since been charged and bailed to court, while the youth found with Class B drugs has been dealt with by way of a formal warning.
Here’s what your Safer Neighbourhood Teams have been up to this week.
As you can see, it’s been a full-on week for the team. Their investigations, intelligence building and hard work have led to some fantastic results, which in turn keeps the community safer.
We hope you have a fantastic and safe week ahead.
Wishing you all the best
Mark
