⚽ World Cup ’26 – Don’t let your behaviour cross the line
Through Operation Hope, we are working with partners to support those most at risk and keep people safe. If you are experiencing domestic abuse, please report it, you are not alone, and we are here to help. If you witness or are experiencing domestic abuse, please contact us on 101, or 999 in an emergency.
Police Advice: Keeping Renovation Properties Secure Properties that are undergoing renovation and left unoccupied are at increased risk of burglary and theft. To help protect your property, we recommend the following: Avoid leaving high-value items such as tools, equipment, or materials on-site overnight. If they must remain, ensure they are securely stored out of sight. Visit the property daily, if possible, to confirm everything remains secure and to quickly identify any signs of tampering or damage. Ensure all doors and windows are locked and consider installing temporary alarms, CCTV, or motion-activated lighting to deter offenders. Simple steps like using timed lighting or keeping the exterior tidy can make the property appear occupied. If you notice unfamiliar individuals, vehicles, or any unusual behaviour around the property, please report it to police as soon as possible. Taking these precautions can significantly reduce the risk of your property becoming a target.
Rogue Traders: Rogue traders often target vulnerable residents, including older people and those living alone. They may offer services such as roofing, driveway repairs or gardening, claim urgent work is needed, and request large upfront payments. We are working with partner agencies to tackle this issue and protect our communities. You can also find free online safety webinars in our newsletter. For advice on how to stay safe, read our May Fraud Newsletter Please share this information with neighbours, family or friends who may be at risk.
The World Cup is underway, and we’ll of course be celebrating the wins. If you’re heading out to soak up the atmosphere and celebrate together, enjoy it, but keep it responsible. Leave the car at home, walk if you can, or get a taxi. Plan your journey home. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs isn’t worth the risk, it can change your life and the lives of others in an instant.
We are asking rural residents, farms and businesses in the Rother area to remain vigilant following reports of burglaries and thefts from rural premises. Outbuildings, barns, garages and stables may be targeted, with items such as quad bikes, machinery, tools and equipment stolen. We encourage those in rural areas to review their security where possible and consider the following crime‑prevention measures: Please report any suspicious activity, even if it seems minor. Information about vehicles, times, locations, travel direction or descriptions can all help build the wider intelligence picture. If you see a crime in progress, offenders on site, or an immediate risk, call 999.
Proactive patrols in Bexhill, speaking with local residents, shoppers and businesses, and hearing first-hand about the issues that matter to them. We maintain both daytime and evening patrols across the area, responding robustly to concerns such as shoplifting and anti-social behaviour. Engaging directly with the community helps us understand local priorities and take action where it’s needed most. We will continue to be a regular presence in Bexhill, working with those who live, work and visit here to deter offending, address concerns, and ensure everyone feels safe and supported. If you have concerns about issues in your area, please report online or call 101 In an emergency or crime in progress, please call 999

Hot Fuzz moment – #RotherRPU Assist 🦢🚓 Sometimes on Roads Policing Unit patrol, you get one of those jobs that really makes you smile… Yesterday, while out on duty, we came across two adult swans and their seven cygnets making an unexpected journey away from Egerton Park - around 1.5 miles from where they should be. The little ones were clearly exhausted, frequently sitting down and struggling to keep up. To keep them safe from passing traffic, we provided a rolling roadblock, using the patrol car to shield the family while they regrouped. With support from two fantastic volunteers from Wildlife Matters and the RSPCA, plans were quickly put in place to safely relocate the swans to suitable water.
We’re pleased to say they’re now settled, safe, and happily bobbing on the water in their new home. A pleasure to be involved, and yes, the cygnets really are as soft and fluffy as you’d imagine! 🦢💙
🚔 Op Downsway – Rye Roads Policing Officers carried out speed enforcement as part of #OpDownsway in Rye. One vehicle was stopped for excess speed, with checks revealing the driver was uninsured. The driver has been summoned to court, and the vehicle was seized. A motorcyclist was also stopped after being recorded at 53mph in a 30mph zone whilst overtaking. The rider has been summoned to court. Speeding and driving without insurance put lives at risk, please drive responsibly. 💙 #Fatal5
👮♀️ A Great Visit to Glenleigh Park Primary Academy Our neighbourhood team had a fantastic time chatting with Year 5 and 6 pupils at Glenleigh Park Primary Academy this week as part of their careers fair. We were asked some brilliant questions about policing, from the different roles within the force to the skills needed, what our day-to-day looks like, and the types of incidents we attend. It was great to see so much enthusiasm about future careers, and lots of interest in policing! The pupils also enjoyed trying on our police hats, and our bookmarks proved very popular too. Thank you for having us, Glenleigh Park Primary Academy, we had a great time! 💙👮♂️
A Hastings man has been remanded into custody after admitting a series of burglary and shop theft offences committed in Bexhill town centre.
On arriving back at Bexhill Police Station after neighbourhood patrols, we came across a house sparrow that had flown into a window and was struggling to fly. As it was clearly stunned, we took it to the Bexhill Sanctuary. The team there advised that the bird would be assessed and passed to an East Sussex WRAS vet if needed. A small incident we winged our way through, but all part of the day-to-day work of neighbourhood policing, looking out for the community in all its forms.
🚓 Sussex Day – Battle On Sunday, we joined the local community at Market Square, Battle, to celebrate Sussex Day. It was a great opportunity to speak with residents, shoppers, and local stakeholders. We were on hand to answer questions, share crime prevention advice, and strengthen the relationships that help keep our neighbourhoods safe. Judging by the number of enthusiastic young visitors keen to explore our police vehicles, we may have some future recruits in the making! Thankfully, they were more than happy to accept stickers and high fives instead of salaries! A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello – it was fantastic to see so many smiling faces enjoying the sunshine.
👮 Meet Your Local Officer 📍 Location: Layby opposite Broad Oak School He will also discuss concerns raised around the use of off-road motorcycles in Brede & Broad Oak. This type of activity can cause significant disruption, create safety risks, and impact the quality of life for residents. This is a great opportunity for you to speak with Your local policing team about their commitment to addressing these issues and working in partnership with the community to find effective solutions. Please feel free to attend and share this post with others in the area to help raise awareness. We look forward to meeting everyone.
🚓 North Trade Road – Speed Checks 🚓 Following concerns raised by local residents, and as part of Neighbourhood Policing Week, we carried out speed checks on North Trade Road this week. ✅ We’re pleased to report that no speeding offences were identified, and therefore no enforcement action was necessary. While no tickets were issued, this is a positive outcome. Neighbourhood policing is about being visible, listening to residents, and taking proactive steps to prevent issues before they arise. Our presence helps encourage safer driving and reassures the community that concerns are being taken seriously. We will continue to respond to local feedback and carry out checks where needed to keep our roads safe.
🚜 Rural Policing Update – Rother 🚜 We are reminding residents of the benefits of using trackers on rural equipment, which can be highly effective in recovering stolen property. Following the theft of a quad bike in Rother, tracking technology enabled officers to locate it quickly at an address in Orpington. Officers attended the location and successfully recovered the vehicle. We have increased patrols across the Rother area and are working closely with the Rural Crime Team to tackle cross-border criminal activity.
Help us keep Sussex safe
