I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Vehicle crime (theft from or theft of), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. 🚨 Catalytic Converter Theft – Crime Prevention Advice 🚨
We have recently received a report of a catalytic converter theft in the local area. Catalytic converters are targeted by thieves because they contain valuable metals. Offenders can remove them in just a few minutes, often causing significant damage and expense to the vehicle owner.
🔎 What to look out for:
Suspicious persons seen underneath parked vehicles Loud cutting or sawing noises, particularly late at night Vehicles being jacked up without clear reason Unfamiliar vehicles circling residential streets or car parks
🛡️ How you can protect your vehicle: Park in a well-lit, busy area or in a garage where possible Consider installing a catalytic converter protective device or clamp Fit a vehicle alarm that alerts when the car is lifted or tilted Mark your catalytic converter with a forensic marking kit or unique identification number Where available, park in areas covered by CCTV If you own a hybrid vehicle (often targeted), remain especially vigilant
👥 Safeguarding & Community Awareness: If you notice suspicious behaviour, trust your instincts and report it Check on neighbours who may be more vulnerable or less able to secure their vehicles Encourage friends, family, and local residents to take preventative steps Share this information within your community to raise awareness
📞 Reporting: If a crime is in progress, call 999 immediately To report suspicious activity or non-emergency information, call 101 or report online You can also report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
