Car Meet Injunction |
||
|
We are pleased to share some excellent news. Yesterday, a Car Meet Injunction was granted by a High Court Judge at the Royal Courts of Justice. For a number of years, organised car meets have taken place in Exhibition Road, causing disruption to local residents and negatively impacting nearby businesses. While enforcement activity has been carried out jointly by the Police and the Council, previous measures have been limited in scope and have not been sufficient to prevent these gatherings.
With the introduction of this injunction, the police now have the authority to arrest individuals involved in these car meets, providing a much stronger and more effective enforcement option.
Your Ward Councillor: Rachael Robathan commented “This shows the importance of joint working to deliver on our residents’ priorities. I am particularly grateful to Sgt Claire Napper and Constable Paul Wyllie for leading on this on the police side. For far too long our residents and visitors have had to suffer these highly dangerous and disruptive Car Meets. With these new police powers, I hope we can finally crack down on this for good”.
This is only the second Car Meet Injunction to be authorised in London. Several Wards in Westminster are covered by the injunction, including Knightsbridge and Belgravia.
This significant achievement has been made possible through the dedicated efforts of the wider Knightsbridge and Belgravia team. I would like to take this opportunity to recognise those who have played a key role, often behind the scenes:
It will take a short period of time to fully implement and operationalise the injunction. Thank you for your patience during this time—we will continue to provide updates as progress is made. It is extremely encouraging to see how the efforts of the Knightsbridge and Belgravia team have delivered positive outcomes not only locally, but for the benefit of the wider Westminster community.
