STAYING SAFE DURING THE HEAT WAVE |
||
|
#WeatherAlert | With hotter weather on the way across, we want everyone to enjoy the sunshine safely while also keeping homes, vehicles, and loved ones protected.
🌡️Staying Safe in the Heat
- Hydration: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you’re outdoors or exercising.
- Shade and sunscreen: Use SPF 30+ and reapply regularly. Take breaks in the shade to avoid heat exhaustion.
- Check on vulnerable neighbours: Older residents, young children, and those with health conditions may struggle more in high temperatures.
- Pets in hot weather: Never leave animals in vehicles, even for a moment. Pavements can also burn paws.
🏠 Keeping Your Home Secure
- Open window security: If you’re cooling your home, only leave windows open in rooms you’re actively using. Opportunistic thieves look for easy access.
- Garden tools and sheds: Lock away tools and equipment that could be used to force entry.
Front doors and patios: Warm weather often means doors left ajar. Please keep them locked when unattended.
🚗 Vehicle Safety
- Never leave children or pets in cars: Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise dangerously within minutes.
- Secure valuables: Don’t leave bags, wallets, or electronics visible while windows are open for ventilation.
🚶 Whilst Out and About
- Stay aware: Busy parks and town centres mean more foot traffic. Keep phones and bags secure.
- Water safety: Avoid swimming in lakes, reservoirs, or canals. Cold water shock can be fatal even in hot weather.
If you’re out enjoying the sunshine in Cannock Chase or around town, please take care of yourselves and look out for one another.
As always, if you see anything suspicious or need assistance, contact us via 101 or 999 in an emergency.
