June’s Loftus Ward PCSO Update
During May, Loftus Ward recorded 52 crime reports and 15 reports of anti‑social behaviour. Most anti‑social behaviour incidents involved: Partnership work with Beyond Housing has continued throughout the month to address ongoing concerns around Larch Court, which provides accommodation for vulnerable residents and those with disabilities. Regular patrols are being carried out to gather intelligence and offer reassurance. Patrols also remain active in Liverton Mines to tackle the ongoing issue of off‑road motorcycles. This remains the primary ward priority for Loftus. We follow up every report. These bikes are often stored within residential areas, so if you see an off‑road bike regularly coming or going from a particular address, please tell us. Public information is vital in enabling police to take further action. Officers are also reminding anyone considering buying a motorcycle, mini‑moto, electric scooter or quad bike that these are mechanically propelled vehicles. If used on a road or public place, they require road tax, insurance, a registration plate and a valid MOT. Juveniles stopped riding electric scooters can receive penalty points and a fine; these points will be added to their adult driving licence once they obtain one. Anyone riding or allowing others, particularly children, to ride such vehicles must ensure they comply with the law. Parents or guardians may be prosecuted under “permit” legislation if they allow illegal use. Bikes that are not road‑legal may only be ridden on private land with the landowner’s permission and where there is no public access. Further information is available on the Cleveland Police Facebook page. Throughout May, Neighbourhood Police worked with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s Enforcement Team to seize several SORN vehicles from West Road, Loftus, and Downe Street, Liverton Mines. A SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) means a vehicle must not be driven or parked on public roads and must be kept on private property. As we move into the summer months, please remain mindful of home security. Ensure doors and windows are locked, including garages, sheds and outbuildings. Although crime of this nature is uncommon in the Loftus area, opportunistic offenders may take advantage of insecure properties. In recent weeks, there have been reports of individuals going door‑to‑door in East Cleveland, including Loftus and Liverton Mines, selling goods and often targeting elderly or vulnerable residents. Please stay vigilant, look out for neighbours and report suspicious activity via 101.
