This Morning, PCSO Nugent has been delivering Hate Crime inputs to KS2 at Brackensdale Spencer Academy.
Despite the hot weather, the children engaged well and we spoke through the seven monitored strands of Hate Crime, the different types, and the importance of being kind to one another. With Years 5 and 6, we spoke through the difference between free speech, and hate speech, whereby although everyone has the right to express themselves freely, even if their views are unpopular and might offend others, when the topic changes to negatively target a group or individual because they are perceived to be different, or by using dehumanising statements and offensive name calling and slurs this would fall into a hate crime; which results in a harder punishment.
To round off the morning, she popped into St Francis to join some local residents at the coffee morning. Whilst there, they spoke about issues within the community and what upcoming events are taking place. ☀️
