I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Officers from the Lee Green and Blackheath Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) successfully carried out a plain-clothes proactive operation on Monday night.
The operation followed intelligence relating to a high-profile and prolific offender, who was wanted for over 20 offences, including theft from retail premises, theft of a pedal cycle and Breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). The suspect had proven extremely difficult to locate and had continued to offend despite ongoing efforts to apprehend him.
Through the use of effective intelligence gathering and careful operational planning, SNT officers were able to identify the suspect’s movement patterns overnight and coordinate a targeted response.
During the operation, officers attended the BP garage on Lee High Road, where the suspect was caught in the act committing a further offence. The suspect was subsequently arrested by PC Campbell. Following arrest, the investigation was progressed by the Volume Crime Team, who conducted secondary enquiries and case building. At the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect was charged with 30 offences and remanded to court to await proceedings.
This operation demonstrates effective intelligence-led policing, strong inter-team collaboration, and a proactive approach to tackling prolific offenders impacting the local community.
