Burbage Police. Tradespersons, Parcels, Car Crime And Youth Related Issues. |

Hello Resident,
We hope you are well. Here is an update regarding crime and Police activity in Burbage this week.
Reported Crime and Appeals
We have been dealing with a report of concern relating to “gardening work” where an elderly resident was in a very difficult situation regarding the quoted cost of work. Thankfully, it appears no money was lost, but please be very careful when contacting tradespeople to complete work. Consider that not all advertisements in local magazines, online and leaflets guarantee that the tradesperson is legitimate or fair/has any morals. If you are looking for work to be completed such as trees, gardening, roofing, driveways etc, PLEASE seek out a reputable, known and ideally, a recommendation from family or trusted friends. This Age UK website may support you Welcome

We are currently having issues with groups of youths on the Burbage fields (behind Bullfurlong Road/Robinson Way). This includes fires being started, criminal damage and bullying. If you have a teenage child, please speak to them and keep them away from this area. We are completing patrols and will be dealing with anyone in the area that is found to be committing crime. If you have any CCTV or information around those involved, please get in touch. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk Issues are occurring between 17:00-00:00.
Report of a residential burglary on Herald Way (near Sketchley Lane) at 23:57 on the night of Thursday 25th where suspects have entered a property by gaining access via an open rear window. Suspects were disturbed and left the scene. It is likely the suspects were targeting the vehicles at the property. If you have any CCTV in the area, please take a look and get in touch 26000372921 Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk
We apprecite the weather is difficult at the moment, but PLEASE remember to lock easy to access windows during the night and ensure the use of steering locks, RFID wallets and house alarms/CCTV/Lighting. Don't give criminals easy access to your vehicle.
This week, there has been 28 calls to Police, 8 of these were emergency calls. A lot of calls received by Police relate to assaults, domestic incidents, criminal damage and safeguarding concerns.
Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement
I have visited Burbage Infants this week to speak to the children about summer safety (as requested by the school). We spoke about stranger danger, water safety and road safety. The information was well received and there were lots of questions as always. Key points include wearing a seatbelt and not to enter lakes/quarries. The children are always very polite and great to work with, and as always, a pleasure to visit.
Whilst out on patrol around the school areas, we have also had to speak to several motorists (parents) about the importance of wearing a seat belt and ensuring that children are wearing them and using the correct booster seats. It was explained to parents, the potential consequences of what would probably happen to their children if they were to be in an accident. These are conversations that we should not be having to have, but hopefully it makes a difference, and we will be monitoring this going forward.
We have been continuing with our patrols around Burbage, including the Britannia field, Tilton Park and the Three Pots estate amongst other areas.
Crime prevention and issues to be aware of
Please be mindful around social media posts you may see relating to incidents in Burbage. There have been several over recent weeks where no report has been made to Police, or at least we have not been able to identify these reports. I have always communicated reports we receive, to raise awareness around community impact crime, such as burglary, vehicle crime and Anti-social behaviour. There may be times (not very often thankfully) where there may be a very sensitive incident where I am not able to immediatly report, if this happens, I will make efforts to address community concerns through our internal procedures. If you have any concerns, feel free to pop me a message.
Parcel Thefts (resident request to raise awareness) Please be mindful when expecting deliveries as to what instructions you have left the delivery company. We often see parcels dumped outside doors on our patrols, which anyone could pick up and take. If you are not going to be in, please leave instructions to the provider as to where is a safe place. Consider CCTV to ensure the parcel has been left, and to ensure it captures anyone that may attempt to steal it. This link provides lots of useful information regarding parcels. Parcel deliveries and your consumer rights - The Complaints Resolver
Whilst out on patrol, we are seeing a lot of car doors and windows left wide open as well as property doors left wide open when residents are not about. Sometimes, items such as bags are left lying about. We appreciate the weather conditions and the need for keeping as cool as possible, but please remain vigilant and at least remove valuable items and lock up when you are not about.
We will hopefully see you this Sunday at the Burbage Big Bash from 12:00 – 17:00 at the Britannia fields.
Thank you and take care.
