Dear Residents ⚠️ Water Safety Warning During the Hot Weather ⚠️ With the current spell of hot weather, many people will be looking to cool off near rivers, lakes, canals, reservoirs, and other open water locations. While the water may appear inviting, it can be extremely dangerous. ❗ Please remember: Open water is often much colder than it looks, even on hot days. Sudden cold-water shock can affect breathing and swimming ability.Hidden currents, underwater obstacles, and sudden changes in depth can quickly put people in danger.Alcohol and swimming do not mix and significantly increase the risk of drowning.Never jump into water unless it is a designated swimming area and you know it is safe.Children should always be closely supervised near water.Stick to designated swimming facilities where possible.🚨 If you see someone in difficulty in the water: Call 999 immediately and ask for the appropriate emergency service.Do not enter the water yourself. Instead, encourage them to float on their back and throw something that floats if available.Let's all enjoy the sunshine safely and look out for one another during this warm period. Kind regards PCSO 6230 RAINBOW |
