☀️ Summer Home Safety Advice ☀️ Good morning everyone, As we move into the warmer summer months, West Mercia Police would like to remind residents to take a few simple steps to keep your home safe—particularly when leaving windows open in hot weather or when going away on holiday. Criminals often take advantage of opportunities created by unsecured properties, so a little preparation can make a big difference. 🏡 Keeping your home secure in hot weather With rising temperatures, it’s understandable to want to keep your home cool—but please consider the following: 🔒 Ensure all doors are locked, even if you are at home 🪟 Avoid leaving windows wide open, especially at the front of the property or within easy reach 🚪 Use window restrictors or locks where possible 🌿 Keep fences, gates, and side access points secure 🚗 Remove valuables from view, particularly near open windows ✈️ Going away on holiday? If you’re planning time away, take a few extra precautions to give you peace of mind: 📬 Cancel deliveries or ask a neighbour to collect post 💡 Use timer switches for lights to make the property appear occupied 🚘 Ask someone you trust to occasionally park on your driveway 🔑 Never leave spare keys outside (e.g. under mats or plant pots) 📱 Avoid posting holiday plans in real-time on social media 🚨 Consider using a burglar alarm or CCTV if available 👀 Look out for each other We encourage our communities to work together: - Report any suspicious activity to police
- Keep an eye on neighbours’ properties when they are away
- Share concerns via Neighbourhood Matters
Taking these simple steps can help reduce the risk of opportunistic crime and keep your home and belongings safe this summer. Thank you for your continued support. Many thanks, |
