🚓 Day of Action – Off-Road Motorcycles at Poldice Valley 🚓

Officers and staff from across three policing sectors – Falmouth & Helston, Truro, and Camborne – came together for a coordinated day of action targeting the illegal and anti-social use of off-road motorcycles in the Poldice Valley area.

To effectively cover the area, officers deployed a range of tactics, including high-visibility foot patrols, pedal cycles, and drone technology, allowing us to monitor activity across difficult terrain and respond quickly.

These operations focus on tackling behaviour that causes significant concern in the community, including:

Riding vehicles off-road without landowner permission (trespass)

Anti-social or careless riding causing alarm, distress or nuisance

Use of untaxed, uninsured, or unroadworthy vehicles

Damage to land, wildlife habitats, and public spaces

✅ Results from the operation:

3 x Section 59 warnings issued for anti-social use of vehicles

1 x Words of Advice in relation to land use and permissions

⚖️ What is a Section 59 warning?
A Section 59 warning (Police Reform Act 2002) is issued when a vehicle is used in a manner that causes alarm, distress, or annoyance and is linked to anti-social behaviour.

The warning is recorded against both the rider/driver and the vehicle

It remains valid for 12 months

If the same rider or vehicle is involved in similar behaviour again within that period, police have the power to seize the vehicle immediately

Seized vehicles can incur recovery and storage fees and may ultimately be disposed of if not reclaimed

👮‍♂️ Throughout the day, officers also carried out community engagement, speaking with cyclists and other users of the area to offer reassurance and explain the work being done.

We recognise the ongoing concerns around off-road bikes and the impact they have on local communities and the environment. Activity like this will continue, and we will take robust action where offences are identified.
