Year 6 Childrens Safety event now closed |

Good morning, from your local Coldhurst & Westwood Neighbourhood Policing Team. Over the past couple of weeks the whole of Oldham’s Primary year 6 students were invited to attend the Annual Crucial Crew event held at the Mahdlo Centre and its been another success with hundreds of pupils attending. Crucial Crew is a multi-agency safety education event designed for Year 6 pupils as they prepare to move on to secondary school and become more independent. During the event, children take part in interactive workshops led by professionals from organisations such as the police, fire and rescue service, ambulance service, local authorities and other partner agencies. The sessions teach important safety messages through realistic scenarios and practical activities. Topics often include personal safety, road safety, fire safety, water safety, online safety, anti-social behaviour, substance awareness, and how to respond in emergencies. By engaging pupils in hands-on learning rather than classroom-based lessons alone, Crucial Crew helps young people recognise risks, make informed decisions, stay safe, and understand where to seek help when needed. Here’s a picture of one school finishing off the day and being asked questions to make sure they’ve understood the safety messages taught. This is an annual event and all year 6 students would benefit its input; if your child is approaching that age group ( 10 / 11yrs ) please ask your local school about making enquiries to be included next year.
