Dear residents,
Rogue Traders have been in Barton over recent days, particularly in the Canberra View and Plumtree Way area of Falkland Way.
They've been offering and undertaking services such as: Driveway Pressure Washing, Sanding & Sealing Gutter Cleaning Window Cleaning
They're knocking on doors putting residents under pressure to have substandard or unnecessary work completed, where often the prices quoted are heavily inflated once the work is completed. Residents then feel under pressure to pay these amounts.
** UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW ROGUE TRADERS TO DO ANY WORK FOR YOU **
For immediate advice, to report an incident, or to get help with a doorstep crime: Emergency: Call 999 immediately if you feel threatened, vulnerable, or if a rogue trader refuses to leave your property. Non-Emergency: Call 101 to report suspicious activity in your local area to the police. Consumer Advice: Contact the Citizens Advice consumer helpline at 0808 223 1133 to report a rogue trader or to get guidance on your consumer rights.
How to Protect Yourself: Keep it locked: Always keep your doors secured, even when you are at home. Check ID: Always ask for official ID and check it through a spy hole or open the door with a chain in place. Verify them by calling the company directly using a number you sourced yourself. Do not agree on the spot: Never agree to have work done by an uninvited caller. Never pay cash: Rogue traders rely on untraceable cash payments. Use signage: Display a "No Cold Calling" sticker on your property to deter unsolicited doorstep sellers.
